Moving Supabase to Self-Hosted Infrastructure
A Supabase project can contain several types of data and configuration. A migration therefore needs to consider more than PostgreSQL.
Identify What You Use
Before starting, make a list of: PostgreSQL data Database schema Authentication users Storage files RLS policies Database functions Extensions Realtime usage Edge Functions Environment variables
Back Up First
Always create a reliable backup before changing infrastructure. Do not make the old environment your only copy.
Move Database Data
PostgreSQL tools such as pg_dump and pg_restore can be used for database migration depending on the source and target configuration.
Plan Authentication
User accounts require special attention. Make sure authentication configuration and user data are migrated correctly before switching the application.
Move Storage
Database data and Storage objects are different. If your application stores images or documents, plan the object-storage migration separately.
Test Before Cutover
Run the new environment alongside the old one where practical. Test login, database operations, file access, API requests, and important application workflows.
Hostwares currently offers a self-hosted Supabase stack with PostgreSQL, Auth, Storage, Realtime, Studio, and other components. A careful migration plan can reduce downtime and unexpected problems.
