How do you host a Bolt.new app on a custom domain?

Two ways: on a paid Bolt plan, add the domain under Domains & Hosting in the project settings; or push the project to GitHub and deploy that repository on a host that takes your domain. The second route costs one flat pack instead of a Bolt plan plus a Netlify plan, and it works for full-stack Bolt projects that need a running server, not only static output. On Hostwares you connect the repository, the build is detected, and the domain goes on the site's Domains tab with the certificate issued once DNS resolves.

Step by step

  1. 1

Push the Bolt project to GitHub

In Bolt, use the GitHub integration (or download the project and push it from your computer). Confirm the repository contains package.json and the src/ folder. Bolt's own Publish goes to Netlify; you do not need it for this route.

    From a downloaded project

git init && git add . && git commit -m "bolt export"
git remote add origin https://github.com/<you>/<repo>.git && git push -u origin main
  2. 2

Deploy the repository on a pack

Dashboard → Deployments → New: select the repository, a branch and a pack. Vite, Next.js, Astro and Node servers are detected and the build and start commands are filled in. The order creates an invoice and the build starts once it is paid.

    From an agent over MCP

deploy → price + approval link, then get_status until the site is running
  3. 3

    Add the environment variables

Keys you typed into Bolt's secrets panel are not in the repository. Add each on the Environment tab (set_env over MCP). For Vite apps they must be prefixed VITE_; for Next.js, NEXT_PUBLIC_ for anything the browser reads.

Variables are read at build time, so the site rebuilds after you change them; the current version keeps serving until the new build is ready.

  4. 4

    Attach the domain

Site → Domains tab → enter the domain → create the DNS record it shows at your registrar. The certificate is issued once the record resolves. Agents use add_domain; verify_ssl confirms the certificate afterwards.

  5. 5

Verify a deep link and the API

Open a route other than the home page directly, and if the app has an API, hit one endpoint. http_check and diagnose_site over MCP do both and read the recent logs if something fails.

What breaks, and the fix

Secrets from Bolt are missing
Add them on the Environment tab with the right prefix (VITE_ or NEXT_PUBLIC_ for browser-visible values).
Supabase sign-in redirects to the old address
Add the new domain to Site URL and Redirect URLs in the Supabase project's Auth settings.

What it costs

  • A Frontend pack from $1/mo; $5/mo for the pack most production apps pick (1 vCPU / 4 GB / 25 GB).
  • A domain from $11.39/yr if you register it with us; your own registrar works too.
  • A full-stack Bolt project with a database: add a managed database from $10/mo or a dedicated Supabase pack from $5/mo.

App

$1/mo

Starter Frontend pack, 1 vCPU / 1 GB RAM / 10 GB

Database, users and files

$5/mo

Smallest dedicated Supabase pack; several projects fit on one

For comparison

  • Bolt Pro (custom domains on paid plans): $20/mo (checked 2026-11-06, bolt.new)

Questions

Can I use a custom domain on Bolt's free plan?+

No. Bolt's support docs list custom domains as a paid-plan feature. Hosting the exported project elsewhere is the free-plan route to your own domain.

Does Bolt's Netlify publish support custom domains?+

Yes, but a custom domain on Netlify generally needs a paid Netlify plan, so you pay two subscriptions. A single pack replaces both.

My Bolt app has an Express or Node backend. Does that deploy?+

Yes. Packs run the start command, so a Node server deploys the same way as a static build. The port is detected; set_app_port over MCP changes it if needed.

Which DNS record do I create?+

The Domains tab shows it for your domain. Create it at your registrar and the certificate is issued once it resolves; nothing else to configure.

Can I keep editing in Bolt?+

Yes. Keep the GitHub sync on and each push redeploys. Or edit the repository directly in Cursor or Claude Code and deploy from there over MCP.

What does it cost?+

A Frontend pack from $1/mo, flat for the term, with no per-seat fee and nothing metered.
