How do you migrate Lovable Cloud to your own Supabase?
Four things have to move, separately: the database (structure and rows), the storage files, the auth users with their settings, and the secrets; the code itself moves through GitHub. Done by hand that is CSV exports one table at a time, files downloaded one by one, and users who must reset their passwords; the Hostwares migration tool runs on your computer and moves the database, functions and rules, users with passwords intact, and files in one backup. Afterwards you restore that backup into a dedicated Supabase project, set the new URL and keys on the frontend, fix the Auth redirect URLs, and re-enter the secrets by hand, because nothing exports those.
Step by step
- 1
Create the destination project
Dashboard → Supabase → New: order a dedicated Supabase pack and create a project. It comes with Postgres, Auth, Storage, Realtime and Studio, generated keys and a URL with HTTPS. Keep the project's Overview open; the Restore tab and the "Connect to your frontend site" block are there.
- 2
Back up Lovable Cloud from your own computer
Run the backup tool. It signs in to Lovable in your browser, keeps the token on your machine, and saves everything to Downloads/Hostwares/<project name>/: a backup-*.json with the database and users, a storage/ folder with the files, and a migrations/ folder. To copy files from private buckets it briefly makes them readable and locks them again when the copy ends.
macOS / Linux
curl -fsSL https://migrate-lovable.hostwares.com/install.sh | bashWindows (PowerShell)
irm https://migrate-lovable.hostwares.com/install.ps1 | iex - 3
1. Database: structure, logic and rows
The backup holds every table, column, relation and enum from the migrations, every database function, access rule, trigger and view copied from the live project (including ones created outside migrations), and every row. Zip the whole folder and upload it in the project's Restore tab. A .json on its own restores the database and users but no file bytes.
The Restore tab takes uploads up to 200 MB. A larger backup is restored for you through a support ticket. By hand, this step is a CSV export per table and a re-import that loses functions and rules.

2. Storage files
Images, PDFs and other uploads from public and private buckets are in storage/ with their folders and file types, and the zip restore puts them back under the same paths. URLs your rows store as strings still point at the old host; one SQL update after the restore fixes them.
Rewrite stored file URLs
update public.posts set image_url = replace(image_url, 'https://<old-host>', 'https://<new-host>'); - 5
3. Auth users and settings
Users are restored with their password hashes, so they sign in as before; no reset emails. What the backup cannot carry is Auth configuration: set Site URL and Redirect URLs to the new frontend address, re-enable the OAuth providers you used with their client IDs and secrets, and check the email templates.

4. Secrets, then the frontend
Keys you typed into Lovable (payment, email, AI providers) are not exported by anything. Add server-side ones to the Supabase project's function secrets and browser-side ones on the site's Environment tab. Then deploy the frontend from the GitHub repository (Dashboard → Deployments → New), paste the VITE_SUPABASE_URL, VITE_SUPABASE_ANON_KEY and VITE_SUPABASE_PUBLISHABLE_KEY values from the Overview block, and redeploy. Sign in with an existing account and open a page that shows uploaded files.
Edge functions are deployed code, not data: redeploy them to the new project from the supabase/functions folder in the repository, and rewire any Lovable-only AI feature.
What breaks, and the fix
- Users get 'invalid credentials'
- The users were re-created instead of restored. Restore from the backup zip so the password hashes come across.
- Every image is a 404
- A .json restore has no file bytes. Upload the whole folder as a zip so storage/ comes across, then rewrite stored URLs.
- Sign-in email links go to the old address
- Set Site URL and Redirect URLs in the new project's Auth settings.
- Payments or email stop working
- Secrets are never exported. Re-enter them in the project's function secrets and on the site's Environment tab.
- Edge functions are missing
- Deploy them from the repository's supabase/functions folder; they are code, not data.
What it costs
- A dedicated Supabase pack from $5/mo, several projects per pack, flat for the term.
- A Frontend pack from $1/mo for the app.
- The migration tool is part of the product; no fee per migration.
App
$1/mo
Starter Frontend pack, 1 vCPU / 1 GB RAM / 10 GB
Database, users and files
$5/mo
Smallest dedicated Supabase pack; several projects fit on one
For comparison
- Supabase Cloud Pro, the usual alternative destination: $25/mo (checked 2026-11-06, supabase.com)
Questions
Does Lovable Cloud let me export the database directly?+
Not as a dump. Lovable Cloud runs on Supabase underneath but does not expose direct database access; the official route is per-table CSV export. The backup tool reads the project through your own browser session and saves structure, logic, rows, users and files together.
Will my users have to reset their passwords?+
No, if you restore from the backup. Password hashes are part of the auth rows and come across intact. Re-creating users through an API would force resets.
What about the secrets?+
Nothing exports them; write them down from Lovable and re-enter them in the new project and on the site's Environment tab. This is the one step every method shares.
Is there a size limit?+
The Restore tab accepts uploads up to 200 MB. Larger backups are restored for you through a support ticket.
Can I restore into Supabase Cloud instead?+
The Restore tab targets a Hostwares project. For Supabase Cloud, the backup's migrations and data can be loaded with the Supabase CLI and psql, but files and users then need the manual steps.
Can the AI run the migration?+
Yes. Tell HW "migrate my Lovable app" in the dashboard. It creates the project and site, gives you the one backup command to run, waits for the upload, connects the site and deploys it, then reports what was restored against what was backed up.
What does it cost?+
A dedicated Supabase pack from $5/mo and a Frontend pack from $1/mo, both flat for the term.
