If you're new to Supabase, creating your first table is one of the best places to start. Supabase uses PostgreSQL, so your tables become the foundation of your application's data layer.
Choose What the Table Represents
Before creating a table, decide what information you're storing. For a blog, you might create a posts table. For an online store, you might create a products table.
Add the Columns
Suppose you're creating a products table. You might add: id name description price created_at Give every column an appropriate data type.
Add a Primary Key
Your table should normally have a unique identifier. An id column is commonly used as the primary key.
Insert Test Records
Add a few records using Supabase Studio. For example, create two or three products to test your application.
Connect the Table
Once the table exists, your frontend or backend can query it through the Supabase client.
Think About Security
Creating a table doesn't automatically mean every user should have unrestricted access. Review Row Level Security and create policies based on what your application requires. This is particularly important before exposing the table to production users.
