A deployment says:
Build failed.
The easiest response is to start changing things.
Don't.
Read the build log first.
The Error Is Usually Already There
A build log can show:
Installing dependencies... Running build... TypeScript error... Build failed.
The important information is often near the first actual error—not the final line saying “build failed.”
Common Build Problems
A production build may fail because of:
Missing dependencies TypeScript errors Incorrect Node.js version Missing environment variables Wrong build command Incorrect working directory Memory limitations
Hostwares deployment logs include dependency installation, build output, container creation, health checks, and final deployment status.
Read From the First Error
Suppose your log contains:
Error: Cannot find module 'xyz'
Then later:
Build failed.
The second message isn't the cause.
The missing module is.
Reproduce Locally
After identifying the error, reproduce it locally if possible.
For example:
npm ci npm run build
If it fails locally too, you can debug without repeatedly deploying.
Check the Environment
Some builds require environment variables.
A build may work on your laptop because .env.local exists.
Production may not have the same values.
The Debugging Loop
Use:
Read logs ↓ Identify first meaningful error ↓ Reproduce ↓ Fix ↓ Build again
Not:
Deploy → Change random setting → Deploy → Restart → Deploy again
Logs turn deployment debugging from guessing into investigation.
